March 1: Summer Priority Deadline

UC-SA Summer AmeriCorps serve at the Frank Garrett Multiservice Center as part of Urban Connection-San Antonio’s summer Kids Camp leading activities, playing, overseeing children, assisting in program implementation, and positively impacting at-risk youth of all ages from the neighborhood.

Qualified applicants have a passion for serving their community, experience working with children, and are available this summer from May 29-August 17. Applicants must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident and over 17 years old. Members serve 330 hrs over 10 weeks, receiving a $1800 living allowance and a $1775 education award.

Sweet Moments at Camp by Kids Camp 2011 AmeriCorps Member

I’m one of the leaders for the 9 and 10-year-old group, and I am so thankful that I was assigned to this group of kids. There are definitely challenges to it (they see no good reasons to try and get along with someone they don’t like), but they are such a fun group to be with all day. Trinity Basketball by UCASA 2010-2011 AmeriCorps Member

Last Friday I had the opportunity to take a couple of kids to watch the Trinity University basketball teams face off against Southwestern University. We got there about halfway through the first half, and it was really awesome to see the joy on the kids faces. Every time that TU got the ball, the kids would yell “Shoot the three” or “DUNKKK IT”. The Swing Set by Kids Camp 2010 AmeriCorps Member

The shade of a few oak trees is a beautiful thing when you’ve been outside in the Texas heat trying to keep up with all the curious actions and minds of children. I caught myself in this glorious oasis today with my heart melting from something different than the 100+ degree weather.
